PALMA
THE deluge that Palma experienced over the weekend hasn't affected the ongoing works to repair the metro, according to the Balearic Minister for Transport.

Gabriel Vicens said yesterday that the intense rains of the last few days had drained off very well, which showed that “work is being well done” and is moving ahead.

Vicens reiterated that it is forecast that the metro will reopen during the summer, though he was not able to specify a date.
He said that drainage works were currently being carried out on the section of the line at the Via Asima next to the Son Castelló industrial estate roundabout. He said the work was being carried out as quick as possible.

Meanwhile, when asked about investment in the Balearic road network, the Transport Minister said he was demanding investment from central Government for projects in Minorca, Ibiza and Formentera.

He said he was satisfied with the response of the Prime Minister, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero to the question from the autonomous Senator, Pere Sampol, this week about investment in the islands' transport infrastructure. “There can't be a situation where major investment taking place in the rest of Spain is not taking place here,” added Vicens.
