Palma.—Andratx Local Police led the operation on which the force had been working for some time and a total of six Bulgarians were arrested - four men and two women.

The two simultaneous operations were two of the largest mounted by Andratx Local Police and all six are expected to appear before a remand hearing in Palma this morning.

According to Andratx police sources, over the past few weeks, there has been a considerable increase in the number of thefts of accessories and clothes from shops in Andratx Port and the village.

Wealthy clients have also had their bag snatched and wallets pick pocketed.
Yesterday, coinciding with market day, Andratx Local Police decided to mount their carefully planned operation. Within minutes two suspected Bulgarian pick pockets were caught on the bridge.

Moments later, an officer spotted three Bulgarians acting suspiciously near a restaurant/bar terrace in the port and called for back up from his colleague.

As soon as the three spotted the police, they tried to make a run for it into the car park where a getaway car was waiting. However, the police reacted too quickly for the three Bulgarians and they were all intercepted along with the driver of the getaway car.

Stolen goods
Inside the vehicle the police discovered a collection of items which they suspected had been stolen and all four were arrested.
Police sources said last night that one of the suspects Bulgarian had only just appeared before a remand hearing in Manacor.
Over coming weeks, the police will continue with their operation against Bulgarian Mafia operating in the area and further arrests are not being ruled out.

The general public is being asked to help by immediately reporting any suspicious behaviour to the Local Police.
