PALMA
PROTESTS could begin next week at the intermodal station in the Plaza España in Palma, the transport section of the UGT union has warned, over workers' conditions at the station's information desk.

The union said that the protests will take place while the private company that manages the desk continues “its predisposition to firing every employee who demands their statutory rights”.

The UGT said that since the Asertec was granted the concession to run the information desk a month and a half ago, “we have found there have been deficiencies in the employees working conditions”.

It added that the collective deal in place for its workers was not being respected in terms of renumeration, health and safety and the timetabling of shifts. It said this was in contravention of the company's public service contract.
