ALCUDIA
THE new ferry terminal and improved port installations were officially opened yesterday by the President of the Council of Majorca, Francina Armengol. The Balearic government has spent 35 million euros on the infrastructure which in total covers more than 27'000 square metres.

The new ferry terminal provides a long-called for safe, modern, embarkation point. From now on, passengers will have a direct connection between the boats and the terminal along overhead walkways - there will be no need to access the ferries via the jetty - and there will be separate channels for embarking and disembarking travellers.

The facilities also mean that passengers are kept completely separate from freight.
Joining Armengol at yesterday's opening were the Secretary of State for Transport, Maria Concepcion Gutierrez del Castillo and the President of the Balearic Ports Authority, Francesc Triay.
