Ibiza.—However, the regional Minister for the Interior Pilar Costa confirmed yesterday that according to her latest information, no one had been injured and no buildings had been damaged.

Costa, speaking at an emergency press conference being held at the town hall in Sant Joan de Labritja - the municipality most badly affected by the fire - said that 80 homes had already been evacuated and that a “safety zone” was being set up in the tourist areas of Portinatx and Cala de Sant Vicent, both of which are adjacent to the blaze.

Consideration was being given to whether it was prudent to evacuate a hotel in Portinatx, currently housing 700 tourists.
A coup for police
Meanwhile, police on Ibiza yesterday arrested a man they believe was responsible for deliberately starting the blaze, 50-year-old M.C.C. Officers were applying for special permission from a court to prolong the time they could keep the suspect in detention as they were awaiting a report from the Guardia Civil's protection unit on the origin of the fire. M.C.C., an Argentinian but resident on Ibiza, is being charged with attempted homicide through negligence. Balearic President flew to the scene of the fire yesterday.
