PALMA
TO mark World Non Smoking Day yesterday, the Balearic Centre for Drug Addiction, in association with the Balearic Ministry for Health and Palma City Council, set up a special information desk in the Plaza Mayor yesterday to alert the public to the dangers of smoking.

The Palma City Council's Director General for Public Health said yesterday that, since the start of this year, it has opened 19 investigations into cases of the anti-smoking laws being broken. Most of the investigations involve restaurants or bars and a total of 35 official complaints have been reported to the Director General over the past five months.

In the Plaza Mayor yesterday lunchtime, a special campaign was launched in an attempt to convince all those smokers passing by to kick the habit - not just for World Non Smoking day, but for good.

Leaflets with helpful tips on how to stop smoking were handed out as well as information about the various courses available in Palma.
