THE Council of Majorca has agreed to carry out improvement and construction works in 16 regions in Majorca during the period from 2005 to 2008.
The total cost of all this work is estimated at more than 9.8 million euros.
The Council of Majorca and the relevant town councils will work jointly to carry out these improvements to local infrastructures.
These agreements have been made independently from the Works and Services Plan, and has only been open to those regions which are not included in this plan, said Maria Antonia Munar, the President of the Council of Majorca. The following towns will benefit from these agreements; Alaro, Alcudia, Arta, Consell, Esporles, Felanitx, Campos, Lloseta, Llucmajor, Marratxi, Muro, Pollensa, Porreres, Sant Joan, Santa Maria del Cami and Ses Salines. The Council of Majorca will grant 6.2 million euros to the total cost, and the remaindeer will be invested by each town council.
These agreements between the Council and the local regions are really important, said Maria Antonia Munar, as they give “solutions to the problems in Majorca”. All of the projects are important for improving the quality of life of the residents and for improving the tourism image.
The project to receive the biggest investment will be in Campos, for a municipal indoor swimming pool, which will cost around 1.2 million euros to build. There are many different projects, such as improving the road and pavement surfaces in Marratxi, street lighting in Llucmajor and artificial turf for a football field in Ses Salines.
