THE Balearic Minister for Tourism, Joan Flaquer, yesterday urged people to forget the negative effects of tourism and think about the positives.
Addressing delegates at a talk on Tourism, the foundation of Balearic development, he said that people should stop harping on about the down side of overdevelopment and embrace the benefits of tourism such as the great wealth it has created along with the scores of jobs. The minister said that no government would push ahead with the further development of tourism of it was going to harm the community, it's just a shame that most people are incapable of appreciating the benefits of tourism, he told his audience. Flaquer said that tourism is not only vital for the local economy but also for the region's future and suggested that a good idea would be to start educating children about the positive value of tourism.
