Staff reporter THE number of lives lost on the Balearics roads last year fell by 16 percent in comparison to 2007. Balearic roads claimed a total of 35 lives last year, seven less than in 2007 but yesterday, the Balearic Interior Minister Maria Angeles Leciñena, also revealed that number of people injured in traffic accidents actually rose last year from 1'5000 to 1'709. However, the road safety campaigns and more speed traps do finally appear to be working with a 40 percent reduction in the number of drivers and motorcyclists being fined either not wearing a seat belt or crash helmet.
