HUNDREDS of Spanish football fans left Palma airport yesterday bound for the World Cup tournament in Germany, most of them on easyJet flights.
EasyJet said that Spain is the European country with the second highest number of reservations for flights to the World Cup. In fact, easyJet estimates that 20 percent of the seats on flights to Germany in June and July will be occupied by Spaniards and that a great number of these will fly from Palma airport. Naturally, the UK leads the table for the number of football fans travelling to Germany, followed (as stated) by Spain (20 percent) and Italy (13 percent). A high percentage of fans in France, Poland and the Czech Republic will also use easyJet to get to Germany, according to the airline. Perhaps one of the reasons for the high demand from Spanish fans is easyJet's direct connection to Berlin and Dortmund, two of their preferred “bases”.
