BALEARIC fashions caused quite a stir at a showing at New York's Altmann building, before an audience of 250 fashion experts and the media.
The fashion show, which included accessories, was called Five Stars, and involved more than 100 firms.
The presentation was part of a promotion of Balearic fashion and food products in New York, organised by the ministry of commerce, industry and energy, in an effort to gain a foothold into the American market. Top designers included Xisco Caimari, Teresa Andreu, Tania del Viejo and Tolo Crespi.
In his opening speech commerce minister Josep Joan Cardona stressed the diversity of the islands, and said that the fashions were exclusive, with a Mediterranean character. Yesterday, the New York Historical Society was the setting for the presentation of local food products. They were presented as tapas by chef Bartomeu Trias, accompanied by classical music and dance by Balearic performers.
