VISITORS stopped and stared as the Plaza Mayor was taken over by giants yesterday morning.
However, they were not out for blood, the friendly figures were part of a traditional culture fair, the main events of which took place at the Misericordia cultural centre in the Via Roma. The fair is a new event, introduced last year by the Council of Majorca, to make sure that traditional fiestas are not forgotten and more people get to know about them. And, what's more important, take part. The fair opened on Friday evening, with speeches, a concert and a special performance of the Balearic anthem, La Balanguera, performed on various popular instruments. After entertaining people in the Plaza Mayor yesterday, the giants made their way to La Misericordia where there were stands offering a variety of goods to please people of all ages.
