A fire which broke out on a 10-metre yacht in the Port of Andratx in the early hours of yesterday morning destroyed three neighbouring vessels and damaged two others.

The fire is thought to have started in the engine room as the yacht, moored on one of the floating pontoons in front of Avenida Mateu Bosch, was preparing to set sail at 1.50am. First at the scelne were fire fighters from Santa Ponsa who were forced to use sea water after their engines ran out of water. Support was eventually provided by Palma fire fighters who used a special foam to finally bring the blaze under control by 5.15am.
