THREE British residents will fly out to London from Palma today in order to take part in Saturday night's “Walk the Walk” to help raise funds for the global fight against breast cancer. The global event, which is sponsored by Playtex and otherwise known as the “Moonwalk,” starts in Hyde Park on Saturday evening and follows the route of the famous London Marathon - coming to an end in the early hours of Sunday. The annual events now attract “walkers” from all over the world as well as a host of celebrity supporters of the breast cancer charity.
Di Menday from Son Ferrer, Sue Haywood, also from Son Ferrer, and Gill Hugill from Portals Nous will join a total of 14'000 women, 1'000 men and 1'000 volunteers on the night march. The three ladies from Calvia will be walking as “The Mallorca A Team” and each team is given a special “Walk the Walk” kit of a special hat, tee-shirt and bra. What is more, just to make sure fellow walkers know where The Mallorca A Team comes from, they have decorated their “bras” in the colours of the Spanish flag. The team has so far raised 1'500 euros but, as Di Menday says “every little helps.” Donations can be made on-line before Saturday mid-night by visiting www.bmycharity.com/themallorcateam or just pop into Nice Price where Di Menday works.
