THE first power transformer for the new electricity substation in Ca's Trasorer arrived on Majorca yesterday.
The power company Gesa Endesa said it took two hours to transfer it by road, and its route took it from Moll Vell in Palma along the Paseo Maritimo, onto the Via Cintura, past the Ikea commercial centre and Cami Fondo to the substation beside the new power station in Ca's Trasorer. The enormous piece of equipment, is 4.7 metres high, 10.2 metres long and 8.6 metres wide. It weighs 224 tonnes and is the most powerful transformer ever to be installed on the islands.
