PALMA
SPANAIR staff in Palma yesterday protested outside the airline's head office against the company's plans to relocate 80 percent of its employees to a new base in Barcelona.

An estimated 500 worried members of staff took part in the demonstration at the airline's Palma airport offices.
According to the works committee, staff are also angry over the difficulties they apparently face in negotiating the airline's plans for the future and the lack of information.

The management has apparently called a meeting with staff for within the next three weeks but, in the meantime, fears are growing that further jobs are going to be lost as part of the airline's restricting programme.

Spanair sources have said that the relocation plan will affect an undetermined number of administration staff in the Palma head office but not pilots and cabin crew.
