TWO Britons allegedly using counterfeit 50 euro notes were arrested by members of Calvia Local Police's night patrol in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The two Britons aged 23 and 31 were apparently caught red handed using the fake 50 euro notes in Magalluf by a plain clothes police officer, police said.

The two suspects were handed over to the Guardia Civil yesterday for questioning and the Guardia Civil has opened a full investigation into whether these latest arrests are connected to those made last month in Magalluf when another group of Britons was caught trying to pass off counterfeit euro notes.

Apparently, some of the serial numbers of the 700 counterfeit euros seized by police yesterday match those on the notes confiscated last month. Police have urged bar owners to be on their guard for counterfeit money this summer.
