PALMA'S new metro is due to start trials as early as next Spring.
Construction of the new link from Plaza d'España to the Balearic University, is expected to be completed by the end of the year and the regional transport and public works minister, Mabel Cabrer, said yesterday that the tunnelling and metro work through the Son Castellò industrial estate will be finished by the end of September and the opening of the mero should coincide with the inauguration of the new Palma rail, but and metro Parque de las Estaciones terminal. Despite further complaints yesterday from resident association about metro work apparently continuing in to the night and beyond the agreed cut-off times, Cabrer said that the project is going to be finished on time and that she is very “satisfied” with the rate of progress. She also announced that the first six new metro carriages will arrive in Majorca at the start of December and should start trails in March or April.

With regards to other of Majorca's major transport projects, she said that all four lanes of the Palmanova to Peguera road will be open by Christmas, once the cycle lane has been finished. The widening of the university road is die to be completed by September while the La Mola tunnel work will be finished by the end of the year.
Cabrer also announced that the new Majorcan Transport Consortium, which will be responsible for the island's road, rail and metro will be operation by early next year.
