ON the eve of last night's World Cup quarter final showdown between France and Spain, the French Ambassador to Spain travelled to Majorca yesterday for talks with Balearic president Jaume Matas. Emerging from talks with Matas at the Consolat de Mar, the Ambassador Claude Blanchemaison, said that the he was gald to have travelled to Palma for the meeting and said that bi-lateral relations between the Balearics and France are “excellent.” However, the Ambassdor would not be drawn on the contents of the rest of their conversation although he did admit that last night's football match had been raised during the meeting. While the French Ambassdor to Spain declined to forecast a result he said that he hoped the “best team won”, although he had a clear preference.
During his visit to Palma he lunched with a select group of dignitaries and leading business tycoons.
