SHOPPERS in Calvia are apparently being targeted by pick pockets.
The Bulletin was contacted yesterday by a British resident who said that a warning should be issued that pick pockets are apparently acting around some of the area's supermarkets and that a number of British residents have already fallen victim to the thieves. One woman even had her cash stolen just minutes after leaving her bank as well.
Over the past few weeks, major organised gangs of Eastern European thieves have been smashed in the Balearics and across Spain with popular holiday resorts and wealthy areas being the most popular targets. Earlier this month, a gang of criminals using high technology to clone credit cards were finally put out of operation in the Calvia area.
It was the topic of conversation this morning and we think some kind of warning should be put out, the caller told the Bulletin.
Today, the summer security operation is launched with extra police on the beat in the busy resorts.
