THE Alumni and Friends of American Universities Association celebrated Independence Day last Sunday, with a Barbecue at the Yacht Club Cala d'Or.
More than 40 expatriates and friends attended the event, including Tumi Bestard, the US Consular agent.
The alumni, friends and American citizens residing the island, enjoyed the hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken wings, jacket potatoes and T–bone steaks, prepared by the staff of the Cala Vista Restaurant of the Yacht Club Cala d'Or. Michel Boruneuf, Cala Vista's pastry chef, prepared the traditional brownies and an apple pie, and surprised the guests with a US flag cake. Kids also enjoyed the afternoon in the children's pool and in the playroom of the club. “We have been able to celebrate the 4th of July according to tradition; with an barbecue”, said Tim Kline, a University of Wisconsin graduate and spokesperson of the Association. Created to bring together former graduates of American universities who reside on the island, the association was founded and chaired by University of Wisconsin graduate Jean Pierce, a retired teacher.
