PALMA
THE Balearic government has this year invested three million euros in port improvement, the regional Minister for the Environment Miguel Angel Grimalt said yesterday.

Visiting the reformation work recently completed in the port of Colonia de Sant Jordi, Grimalt said that 13 port improvement projects have been completed this year.

The Environment Minister explained that the primary aim of the improvement projects are to create extra space for more moorings, improve port safety and install new services as part of a general modernisation of the region's government-controlled ports and marinas.

In the Colonia de Sant Jordi, part of the quay has been repaired, the port buildings restored and a new close circuit television security system installed.

Two stations for the collection of dangerous liquids and materials have also been set up.
In total, some 208'000 euros has been spent on improving the port in the Colonia de Sant Jordi since the start of this year.
