NEWSDESK THE Local Police and Guardia Civil are on the hunt for a group of pyromaniacs who set fire to over 30 sun beds and sun shades in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The alarm was raised just after 4.30am when a security guard was making a pass along the beach and spotted flames raging in the distance.
He called the police and both members of the Local Police and the Palmanova Guardia Civil rushed to the scene accompanied by the Santa Ponsa fire brigade.

A total of 16 sun beds had been destroyed by fire along with eight of the straw sun shades.

A further eight sun beds suffered irreparable damage.
Each of the sun shades are worth 200 euros and the sun beds 80, according to police sources yesterday.
The police spread out across the beach within minutes of reaching the scene to try and catch the culprits but they had fled.
According to sources close to the investigation, those responsible may well have been a group of young tourists who were apparently spotted in the area of the torched beach equipment shortly before the incident.

The Local Police are asking any one with any information to come forward.
In the meantime, beach security is going to be stepped up over night.
