Three people, including two small children , almost drowned in accidents in swimming pools across the island. Nationwide 20 people have so far drowned in accidents in swimmings pools and the sea. The most serious incident took place in a private pool in Puerto Pollensa where a three year old nearly drowned. The child was rushed to Palma´s Son Espases hospital where he continues to be in a serious condition. Earlier an eight year old nearly lost his life following a similar accident in Puerto Alcudia. And in Santa Ponsa an 80 year old was taken to hospital after getting into difficulties in a swimming pool. The emergency services warned parents yesterday to be especially careful and never allow children out of their sight especially in the vicinity of a swimming pool or the sea.
