PIMECO (Small and Medium Sized Businesses Association) and AFEDECO (the Shopkeepers Association) yesterday agreed that the sales had got off to a great start. People flocked to the first day of the Summer sales, in spite of the fact that less goods were on sale this year than in previous years.
Angel Pujol, Assistant Secretary General of PIMECO, explained that during the first few hours of the day there was a “massive influx” of people into the shops although, he warned, they still had to “till up” to see if the “massive” presence of potential consumers had translated into sales. The expectations of the sector “are optimistic” said Pujol, who added that in the sales season shops were able to “liquidate” their existing goods and “renew” their stock. As for the price reductions, he highlighted that from the first day consumers could get “huge discounts of around 40 and 50 percent”.
