PALMA
THE Balearics records 6'020 stolen vehicles per year, which puts the islands among the regions which have most crimes of this type, although it is still way behind those which have the greatest number of stolen vehicles, such as Madrid and Andalucia, with 35'000 and 30'200 respectively.

In total 175'200 vehicles are stolen in Spain each year according to figures for 2005 to 2006 compiled by Detector, a company which specialises in finding stolen cars. Of these more than 50'000 are never recovered.

According to these figures, in Spain a vehicle is stolen every three minutes, and it is “all terrain” vehicles which are the most popular with thieves, making up 66 percent of all cars stolen during the last two years.
