AIMING to provide a high quality service during the summer months and to step up client support in tourist areas, the Balearic Post Office is taking on an extra 1'150 contracts this summer. A spokesman confirmed that the Post Office is keen to make sure that delivery services to company offices are kept at an efficient level, along with increasing activity along coastal areas where the season's visitors mean more collection work is required. Measures will include making sure that if any regular postal workers go on holiday, that they are replaced by an additional member of staff so that the work is not simply off-loaded onto the remaining already hard-pressed workforce. In order to fit in with the tourist season and the requirements of visitors, post offices in coastal areas will not close at midday, so that they will remain open for twelve hours in succession from 8.30am to 8.30pm on Mondays through to Fridays, and on Saturdays from 9.30am to 1pm. This will be the sixth year running that these extra measures have been applied. Offices affected are located in Santa Ponsa, Palma Nova, Alcudia, Can Picafort, Porto Cristo, Cala Millor, S'Arenal and Cala D'Or.
