PALMA
THE hostelry sector can absorb a “good part” of those who lose their jobs owing to the slowdown in the economy, above all from the construction sector, according to the CCOO union.

Union secretary Gines Diez made the comments during the signing of a deal with employers in Ibiza.
Also present was the Secretary General of the Hostelry Federation, Angeles Sanchez.
Diez said that it “is possible” to activate the sector during the traditional slow months for tourism.
Diez said that a new pilot project was being implemented to bring older people from across Europe to the Balearics.
This successful implementation of this plan would result in an increase in activity during the year, which could absorb some of those who have lost their jobs in the construction sector.

Diez said that it was impossible to absorb all those who lost their jobs in the construction industry.
Meanwhile, Sanchez explained the principal features of the deal reached between workers and employers in relation to issues such as salary increases and the percentage between fixed and temporary contracts.
