MADRID/PALMA WE can safely say it's been one of the hottest days of the year with the Balearics being one of the regions of the country still remaining on a Yellow Alert, the National Weather Agency (AEMET) reported yesterday.

AEMET had imposed the level one alert in the interior, north and northeast of Majorca due to searing temperatures which have been reaching 36 degrees Centigrade. The Agency reminded people of the vulnerability of children, the elderly and animals in excessively hot conditions. On the mainland, thermometers were reading 38 degrees in certain parts of Andalucia.
