PALMA
BALEARIC Traders Federation, AFEDECO, criticised Palma City Council yesterday for its alleged failure to crack down on illegal street vendors.
The Federation claimed that a larger police presence was needed to curtail the vendors who are reportedly undermining the success of established, tax-paying shopkeepers in the capital. Traders are apparently experiencing one of the worst seasons since the recession began.

AFEDECO said that it was not the first time its members had appealed to the Mayor of Palma and the Central Government delegation in the Balearics to take action on their behalf. The local council in Calvia, said the Federation, has taken against street vendors in that municipality - why cannot Palma do the same?
