Low cost airlines increased their operations in the Balearics by 11 percent during the first half of this year, according to the Ministry for Tourism and Industry in Madrid.

Between January and June, Balearic airports handled a total of 3'006'646 passengers making the region the second busiest low cost destination in Spain for the sixth consecutive months - only Catalonia handled more low cost traffic.

The UK and Germans continues to dominate the low cost market, the UK accounts for 33 percent of all low cost passengers coming to Spain while the Germans command a smaller share of just under 19 percent.
