A 30-YEAR-OLD Ecuadorian immigrant working on Majorca was brutally killed in Sencelles on Sunday, when a party goer ran him over to allegedly fend off a knife assault. Franjil Vinicio had obtained his resident's permit on the Island a month-and-a-half ago and had been renting a finca with another compatriot alongside the industrial estate in Sencelles. Employed by a water company, Vinicio had not been averse to his colleague's idea of a party at the weekend and it lasted right through the day and into the evening. Vinicio meanwhile, visited various bars and returned to the party, purportedly the worse for wear. He remonstrated with the guests, amongst whom was Segundo Marcelo R., aged 46, also from Ecuador. Witnesses reported that Vinicio drew a knife and threatened all present. It was at this point that Marcelo leapt into a parked car, revved the engine and drove straight for Vinicio just as the latter was lunging forward with a knife. Car and aggressor made contact and when police and ambulance crews arrived, there was nothing to be done to save the victim. The culprit made no attempt to resist arrest and remains in police custody.
