PALMA
LAST night, not only did the contestants of Channel 4's Big Brother get a shock when five new house mates were thrown in, so too did a number of people here in Majorca when they saw their friend Tom Oliver enter the reality show.

Andratx residents Oliver Neilson and Vicki McLeod received an e-mail from Tom's mother Jackie, who has owned a property in the Port of Andratx for many years, early yesterday to report that Tom had entered the Big Brother house. “We couldn't believe it,” said Oliver. “We've known him for at least five years. He's worked as a Magalluf bouncer, a yacht dealer and a real estate agent on the island and has got loads of good friends. He's a really nice guy and we only saw him here in Andartx just a couple of weeks ago. He returned to England last year to work as a Chartered Surveyor with his mother who is an estate agent near Northampton,” he said. “He's certainly going to liven things up,” said Vicki. “He's not known for keeping his mouth shut and he's very well educated. Public school boy and extremely well travelled, so it's going to be fun watching him in the house,” she added.

The 27-year-old, who spent last summer selling yachts in Portals, is described by Channel 4 as “a self-confessed control freak who deals with anger by exercising or shouting.

The self-employed former rugby player once travelled more than 22 hours from Spain to London to the Big Brother auditions.
Tom's proudest achievement is starting his own business and says that his friends would describe him as ‘ambitious and jammy'. He's only ever been in love with one girl and is 80% happy with his life but would like to be in a long-term relationship.

Conservative supporter Tom says the Jeremy Kyle Show and the credit crunch make him angry.
The most outrageous thing he has ever done is to run away from a £200 taxi fare while in New York.
In fact, Tom had a very promising professional rugby career ahead of him and includes Jonny Wilkinson amongst his friends, but sadly his rugby days were cut short by a serious injury. “He keeps himself very fit and healthy, the women have already gone crazy for him judging by the Big Brother blog,” Vicki said. “This is going to be exciting, I hope Majorca supports him,” she added.
