JOY for drivers yesterday as more lanes were opened on the roads between Palmanova and Peguera, which have recently been causing traffic chaos.
The Balearic Minister for Public Works, Mabel Cabrer was present when the road changes were finally unveiled. The objective of the changes is to ease traffic problems which have been building up in this area this summer due to the intense roadworks. The two new lanes on both sides will remain open during the entire summer, said a spokesperson from the Ministry for Public Works, so that no real traffic blocks should happen. These road changes were made after Government observers detected major traffic problems throughout the day. The observers have been stationed at the main roadwork sites on the island so that they can spot any possible future nightmare driving problems. In concrete, the road from Peguera now has two lanes up until Palmanova where it joins with the PM-1 motorway. When travelling from Palma to Peguera, drivers will also be able to use two lanes from the end of the Palmanova motorway up until the Santa Ponsa bypass.
