PALMA
THE hunt for the fugitive Palma prisoner in connection with the brutal murder of 25-year-old Romanian Ana Niculai on Monday continued yesterday.
The Guardia Civil and the National Police yesterday received dozens of calls from the public who reported alleged sightings of the prisoner after his image was distributed to the media on Wednesday.

The police are following up all leads in the hunt for the fugitive who should have returned to Palma prison from a weekend release and a social rehabilitation session on Monday morning.

An immediate search and arrest warrant was issued when he failed to return but now, the urgency to locate the criminal is even greater because police believe he may well be responsible for the death of Niculai whose charred body was found in the boot of her boyfriend's car with her hands tied behind her back on Monday night. The fugitive is believed to have been spotted in the area of Muro, where the burnt out Audi A4 with Niculai in the boot was found and yesterday police extended the search and were combing areas of the Albufera Natural Park.
