Palma. The Balearics, New York, Las Vegas, London and the Canary Islands are the most popular destinations for Spaniards going overseas this summer.
According to online travel agent Expedia, New York is the most popular destination, Manhattan in particular, followed by the Balearics.
But, apart from Las Vegas and London, Los Angeles and San Francisco are selling well this summer as are city breaks to Rome and Berlin.
Closing down
But, while Spaniards are travelling this summer, it appears that fewer and fewer are booking with their local travel agent.
According to the results of a survey, over the past year, one out of every ten travel agents in Spain have closed their doors.
Between June 2010 and June 2011, a total of 2'629 travel agents ceased trading in Spain quite simply because more consumers are booking holidays and buying flights over the Internet. In the Balearics, 142 travel agents closed their doors.
