RESIDENTS in the Balearic Islands spend more when they are on holiday than the Spanish average.
The daily average spending for a Balearic resident on holiday was 80.4 euros in 2004, which is noticeably higher than the Spanish average of 51.6 euros. Balearic residents also made 2.08 million trips last year, 882'720 of them for holidays. These statistics were presented yesterday by the Ministry of Tourism, and are part of the statistical report “Spanish tourist movements (Familitur)”.

According to these figures, residents in the Balearic Islands are the second highest population for trips abroad (13.7 percent), slightly behind the most travelled people living in Catalonia. The principal destinations of Balearic residents last year were main-
