THE environmental group GOB yesterday complained about the “untenable” situation of the Llevant Natural Park after confirming that, in its three years of power, the Balearic Government has reduced the protected area to 1'586 hectares, which is a reduction of 93.67 percent of the original area. According to GOB, natural park has suffered a “continual” and “progressive” loss of its environmental value and called for immediate action to be taken by the environment ministry to halt any further damage to the park. GOB said yesterday that a general “lack of interest” by the ministry in the welfare of the park is to blame and also pointed out that the park commission's last meeting was in April 2004.
