PALMA
FIRE damaged three warehouses at Palma's main fruit and vegetable market Mercapalma in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Palma City Council sources said yesterday that the fire broke out at 00.30am and damaged nearly 2'800 metres of industrial warehouses owned by fruit and fish distributors as well as a local food bank charity. The fire started in a fruit warehouse and fire fighters battled the blaze for three-and-a-half hours. A total of 40 Palma fire fighters participated in the major operation and small teams remained at the scene yesterday morning dousing the fire scene and making sure that the blaze was fully extinguished.

A full investigation has been opened into the cause of the fire which fortunately did not cause any human casualties.
