Palma.—So far there are 30 hotels in Palma where guests can rent these kind of vehicles, and now Majorcan visitors can do so as soon as they arrive in the port.

The opening of the shop was presided over by the Minister for Economy and Trade, Joaquin Garcia, who also took the opportunity to announce that 2000 recharge stations will be installed across all the four islands. “This type of transport is very positive for a sustainable economy and that is one of the key aims of this government. “The Balearics is the perfect place for electric cars, for what they do for the environment and for the type of customers they are aimed at. “That is why we are also working with the local council to ensure citizens who use these vehicles get the appropriate reward,” added Garcia.
This was confirmed by Alvaro Gijon, Palma's Tourism Councillor. “We want to promote the use of electric cars. And for that we are willing to waver some important car tax fees and make parking in the city centre a little bit easier.” Proa Rent a Car-Hertz, the company running the new car rental service in the port showed their support to the local authorities expressing their contentment for the “environmental friendly cars” concept. “We want to add a significant value to Palma, and to the four islands. For that reason we decided to go ahead with this new model of ‘sustainable mobility' associated with tourism.” Garcia said recently that he hoped Majorca could become a “European reference for promoting the electric car and how to better preserve the environment.”
