Palma.—Thousands of people gathered through the night with their wheel barrows for the opening of the new Bauhaus DIY mega store in Marratxi yesterday morning.

The German multinational opened its first store in the Balearics yesterday at 8am and to celebrate the occasion, gave away 20 cheques worth 1'000 to some of the lucky winners who had turned up with their wheel barrows.

Some eager DIY experts had camped out through the night as part of their bid to win 1'000 euros.
The 30 million euro investment has created over 250 new jobs in the area and covers an area of 14'000 square metres, making it a Mecca for DIY and gardening enthusiasts.

The mega store was inaugurated on Thursday night with a ceremony presided over by the Director general of Bauhaus, Bart Ginneberge and attended by the Mayor of Marratxi, Xisco Ferra and the Balearic Government's Director General for the Economy, Joan Aina Perello.
