By Humphrey Carter FOUR people were injured in the early hours of Friday morning when a disgruntled client opened fire in a Palma lap dancing club. According to the police, the 40-year-Spanish suspect, stormed into the club in calle Benito Pons y Fábregas at 5.30 armed with a pump action shotgun. He fired one shot which hit one of the doormen in the arm and carried through, hitting the bar and spraying nearby clients, three of whom were injured by the shrapnel. The suspect, who was in police custody on Friday, handed himself into the police shortly after the incident. Police sources said that it appears the 40-year-old was angry about having been refused entry to the club earlier in the night. According to sources at the club, the man was extremely drunk and was therefore turned away at the door. It appears that the suspect went home, changed his clothes and returned armed with a pump action shotgun. Once inside the entrance hall, he fired one round into one of the doormen as he tried to take cover inside the bar area. Three of the injured were club employees. The fourth is a client. However, only the shot doorman suffered serious injury and underwent an emergency operation at Son Dureta hospital. The others were treated at Son Llatzer and two were discharged later in the day afternoon. Police were continuing with their investigation into the shooting and the suspect is expected to appear before the magistrate in charge of the investigation today to make a formal statement.
