Palma.—Balearic Socialist Senator Antoni Manchado is going to table a motion in Madrid that the 2'335 hectares destroyed by the Andraitx fire be officially declared a disaster zone which would secure vital aid from central government.

The fire has now been declared under control and that the total number of hectares torched by the blaze put at the above figure.
However, teams of fire fighters remain on the scene and will do so until this coming weekend because it is expected to take most of this week to extinguish the fire with small pockets still smoldering in area inaccessible on foot, so they are still being water bombed from the sky.

Sadly, some residents caught up in the blaze are angry that the Andraitx to Estellencs road be reopened as quickly as possible as its closure is hitting their business hard.

The Mayor of Estellencs, Tomeu Jover, says that he hopes the road will be reopened to traffic by the middle of the week and the Council of Majorca says it is working as fast as it can to repair the damage caused to the road, but they are not prepared to reopen the road until engineers have deemed it safe. Local bar owner Pepe, whose Bar Es Grau is usually packed during August said that he is losing a fortune. “The town's empty and it's ruining us,” he said.
