RESIDENTS and swimmers in the popular holiday resorts of Cala Estancia, Can Pastilla and the Playa de Palma are furious about the filthy sea in which they are having to swim. Plastic rubbish, seaweed and general waste has been lapping at the beach for the past few days and the local residents have complained to the local authorities about the dirty water and the smell. But it appears that it is those who have the sun bed concessions on the beaches who are responsible for keeping the water's edge clean.
SMELL
The least affected is Cala Estancia where the beach and the water, for the most part, are in excellent condition, sadly a small stretch of the coast lets the beach down. However, in Can Pastilla, where the same company has the concession for the Playa de Palma, the conditions are slightly worse.
However, it is the start of the Playa de Palma where there appears to have been a build up of waste and where a film of dirty water carrying non-biodegradable waste laps against the beach. The local authorities are aware of the complaints from residents and swift action is expected to be taken to repair the damage done to the resorts' image.
