JORDI Antoli remained under police guard at Son Dureta hospital yesterday with homicide squad detectives waiting to take him into custody this morning and question him about the murders of his 58-year-old wife and 60-year-old companion in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Friends and relatives of the victims were still in a state of shock yesterday, the autopsy results confirmed that both women died as a result of multiple stab wounds and both had been stabbed in the heart. Forensics were still dusting down the two murder scenes yesterday while detectives continued working in two groups, one at the Palma home Antoli shared with his wife Maria Asuncion in calle Bellet and the other unit in Colonia Sant Jordi where the suspect's companion Margarita lived. However, in Palma, police were following a lead that the once “exemplary” marriage had become fraught over financial problems and that ill health of both Jordi and his wife had added to the stress on their marriage since the start of the year. Money may well have been the cause of the loud argument heard by neighbours, but does not bear any relation to the death of the mistress. Police spent the day carrying out house-to-house inquiries; in Colonia Sant Jordi detectives established that Antoli and divorcee Margarita had not known each other that long and their relationship has only recently begun. None of her friends and neighbours apparently knew of her affair or relationship with the double murder suspect. Yesterday tributes to the two victims continued to flood in as police started to hear differing opinions about Jordi Antoli from his neighbours. While many have described him as a wonderful, sincere person, others, although surprised at the murders, have described him as a “bit odd.” Jordi spent nearly 30 years working in a psychiatric hospital and then set himself up at home claiming he could cure arthritis, back aches and other ailments using white magic and tarot cards. Police also know that Jordi took his dog to the “pet hairdresser” on Tuesday and said he was not going back to collect it.
