PALMA
THE King of Spain, Don Juan Carlos currently on holiday here in Majorca, met with regional President Francesc Antich yesterday, affirming the return to normal in the Balearics following ETA's bomb attack in Palmanova last week in which two Guardia Civil officers were killed.

Their message of “safety and tranquility” came as a major boost to the tourist industry in the Islands which had wavered in the wake of the terrorist attack.

Don Juan Carlos, speaking from the Almudaina Palace in Palma, said he “loved” the Balearics, “especially Majorca.” The King said he was going to make a point of continuing to have his annual summer holidays here.
The monarch's confidence in the safety of the Islands sent important signals of “normality” to tour operators from the Balearics' key client countries of the United Kingdom and Germany.
