Palma.— The number of cyclists using the cycle lane along the Avenidas, between Enric Alzamaro and Font i Monteros has gone up in the first seven months of this year compared to 2012 according to results announced this week.

Gabriel Vallejo from the department of Transport says the increase is from 1.614 to 1.789 cyclists that use the cycle lane on a daily basis, an increase of 10.8%, is a result of the good work done by all the authorities responsible for promoting bicycle use in Palma. “Everyday we have more and more people using bicycles. “Not only because of the new design of the cycle lane (previously a lane for motorcycles), but also after Bicipalma improved its service and the council's promotions to motivate the use of bicycles.” Vallejo added that only the month of July, the number of cyclists that used Avenidas every day rose up 6.7% compared to the same period the year before. The results of the study were revealed after regular control checks were made in different areas of the city.
