Palma.—Over the past six months, a noticeable short supply of spare parts for industry and engineering has developed in the Balearics, the regional business federation (CAEB) and the small to medium-sized business association (PIMEM) claimed yesterday.

The shortage, said both organisations can be largely attributed to stock “adjustments” being made by service companies to avoid bearing extra costs.
Majorca's Electrical Installation Association (Asinem) explained that keeping a minimum stock of every single item in the catalogue means high storage space expenses. When there is a need to replace specific equipment such as broken down air conditioning units, the client has to wait longer, sometimes a month, whilst extra parts are ordered from the mainland. “Suppliers run down what they have in storage to a minimum,” said Asinem, and naturally clients who want prompt service are not getting it.
