CALVIA
POLICE are intensifying their controls over traffic entering and leaving Calvia between 10pm and 7am. It is now likely that all vehicles in the area at that time will be stopped.

Not only have road checks been stepped up, but the police themselves have undergone a radical security upgrade. They are now heavily armed wearing bullet proof vests and using spiked road strips so that if any cars try to “jump” the control point, the vehicle's tyres will be punctured and flattened. One by one, cars and their drivers entering or leaving Calvia are being thoroughly scrutinised.

Prior to this new era of heightened security, checks were less detailed but their current complexity has daunted more than one slightly sensitive driver.
