THE United Left-Greens coalition (EU-EV) yesterday accused the Partido Popular (PP) of “corruption” and polticial practices “more in keepting with Sicily” and called on the Majorcan Unionist party (UM) to change its tactics, warning that it was in a position to block development plans on the Council of Majorca, which is run by the UM. Spokesman Miquel Rossello criticised the behaviour of the PP over the situations in Calvia, Andratx and Ses Salines, and accused them of “buying” the vote of former UM councillor Joan Thomas of Calvia, to approve two Santa Ponsa developments being included within Calvia. So far Mayor Carlos Delgado (PP) has refused demands to dismiss Thomas, who resigned from his party so that he could vote with the PP on the Santa Ponsa question. Rossello expressed his concern at what he called “lack of respect for the rules of the game” which has characterised the PP's actions in Calvia and in Andratx and called on the UM to change its attitude.
